Patrolling wolf house

Does anyone know how the patrolling wolf house works?

place the wolfs house and select the (Gear ⚙) option and hold it and set to attack hostiles and Neutral animals or NPC´s.

I placed the wolfs house and I have the option to change some settings, but I cant not place some Wolves inside. So what went wrong from my side? Thank you for answering :-)
