Building Skins

I've activated building skins but I do not know where to equip them. Where do I equip these to show when I'm building them? Should they automatically be on the pieces that I build or do I have to equip the pieces individually?

when you put the corresponding building parts in the hot bar, it will show a 'skin box' above the hot bar box, and you can change the skin in that box
